phpMyAdmin login rejection as root ???

I am trying to access phpMyAdmin from inside of cPanel.
When I click the icon to launch it, I get a welcome to phpMyAdmin
and then the following:

Wrong username/password. Access denied.

Now this is a poser, since I am logged in to cPanel as root.
With root access, how can phpMyAdmin reject me?

did you set the password for root in config.inc.ini file in your phpMyAdmin Dir?

I suggest setting the following to http
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'http'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie

This way it will read from your passwd

Thanks for the reply.

However, I looked for a file called config.inc.ini and could not find one.

If you meant config.inc.php, then this was the setting:
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'http';

as for putting my root password in a plain text file on the server, that is a security risk I am unwilling to take.

I certainly hope that is not the only solution.
