PHP compile question...

HELLO... I have been trying to install php 4.3.1 but when I try to compile it gives me some error that I don't understand. it is:
Quote:
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-slackware-linux/3.2.2/../../../../i386-slackware-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [sapi/cli/php] Error 1
I configured php like this:
Quote:
./configure \
--with-axps=/usr/sbin/apxs \
--with-apache=../apache_1.3.27 \
--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \
--with-curl=/usr/local/curl \
--enable-shared-pdflib \
--enable-track-vars
any ideas as to why it configured fine and I got the good ol' completion message and everything, but GCC whigs when it tries to compile? any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Just to add:

Try not to installed the openssl from the slack CDs. There is bug in the openssl packages that with Slack9. Either download the latest packages from slackware.com or build everything from source.

Another thing... If you already build your ssl and still get this problem, you may have installed your ssl in /usr/local/ssl. Add you /usr/local/ssl/lib into you /etc/ld.so.conf, follow by ldconfig. Run your make again. This should help...

yes.... I got it... finally

Well... thanks to all of your help I got apache + PHP + mysql seamlessly installed. It was that buggy openssl package that I installed w/ slack9. I did a removepkg and retried things.
THANKS again everyone... YOU RULE! along w/ linuxquestions.org
