Permission Denied with VSFTPD

I set up VSFTPD and allowed local users to log in. I also create a group called people and added fred to it and gave fred his own folder. When I connect to VSFTPD as fred with his password it logs on fine. I can transfer files from it but I can't transfers files to it. It says "550 Permission Denied"

Help please =)

If gentoo is the similar to mandrake 10.1, then right click on the folder and go to properties, then permissions. check off all the ones that say write

could a gentoo user verify this?

I am using command line.

But I also got it

In the vsftpd.conf it wasn't set so people could write.
