permission denied when "./configure" to put gnupg in Dynebolic

Hi,

I am root and in a dir that I just unpacked Python-2.6.1 in.

When I do a ./configure I get the error "permission denied."

The disk partition is writable since I just made the dir to move
Python-2.6.1.tgz into for unpacking.

whoami responds with "root"

Earlier I had the same problem trying to make gnupg, and have
not solved that one either.

Thanks for help.

I don't know whether it helps but maybe the configure script is simply not executable?
chmod 0755 configure
within the directory...
Cheers, j

Probably your partition is set a noexec?
Noexec is used for security reasons when you have "foreign" partitions
Check with
mount

Never ever do these as root:
tar xvzf
or
./configure
or
make whatever

Only make install has to be done as root if the destination directory is not owned by the user.

j-ray and nx5000,

Good suggestions that I will check out. I had not considered those things.

Thanks.
