pear support in Apache

Hi, I'm trying to setup PEAR support under Apache on a virtual host running FreeBSD. I searched the net and found that PEAR should come with PHP 4.3.0 (which I have...) but can't seem to make it work. I tried to download and install PEAR but it required the php executable, and I cant'find it. I found instead the Apache php_mod****.so So does some of you guys tell me what else to do? Maybe there is a php_mod_pear somewhere? Or is there another way to get the damn PEAR on my host?
Thank you

If you don't have the php executable, it's a pretty good indication that your php installation is incomplete. You'll need to have a fully working php installation before you can really worry about pear.

How did you get php installed on FreeBSD in the first place?

I own a Virtual Private Server on Verio.com. PHP comes installed by them as an Apache module and apart from PEAR it works well. I have PHP-Nuke, phpMyAdmin and they work just fine. I tried to install Tiki and found it needs PEAR. I tried to download PEAR but found that I needed the php executable that I have not. The folks at Verio said they didn't give support for PEAR, so here I am.
Thank you in advance

It kinda sounds like you're screwed. If you don't own the box (i.e. no root) and verio doesn't 'support it', what are you going to do? If Tiki is that important to you, find a different hoster that supports PEAR. PEAR is not a plugin for Apache (not an Apache module), but more a set of functions for extending PHP. I imagine you're going to need access to install the different libraries to extend the functions for PHP... and thus require more control over the box.
