Paid Assist Request - VPS Firefox Launch No Display Error

I have my own VPS (virtual private server). It started at FC7, I upgraded it all the way to FC10 and I can't figure out how to get firefox to launch. I've installed gnome to try and get some sort of X server available locally, via "yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"". Changed boot up run level to 5, but gnome or X.org won't automatically launch altogether.

I'm deploying to Afghanistan any day now and I want to be able to remotely run firefox via putty with X forwarding from this VPS. I feel this will be much faster web browsing than running firefox locally. So once I have putty set up with X11 forwarding, I run xming on my windows box. I do this all the time for work, but have never run into a server that does not have firefox and some sort of x server installed at default.

When I try to kick off firefox, I get the message "Error: no display specified".

I'm in a crunch for time, so if someone has the time, I will compensate them for such. I will PM them the IP and root login info of the server. I will gladly paypal them their fee, just let me know before hand what that is. Money will be paypal'd over once the service is complete.

Thanks!

No bites yet, I'm sure this is a quick fix. I'm willing to pay $50 for the cause.

edit- Also, if possible once the fix has been discovered, if it could be posted here or PM'd to much, I'd appreciate it!

edit2- OR, if someone knows of an actual business that can do this type of one time paid support, that would work too. Thanks!

I uncommented two lines in your /etc/ssh/sshd_config:

X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10

The second is optional, just useful in case you want to reserve 0-9
for local sessions. Also, most configs prohibit x forwarding as root,
though yours allows it without my doing.

I understand you have reasons to be quick about things. However so do most of your fellow LQ members asking questions. Offering a monetary reward is not how we like to see things done at LQ as it is perceived as an unfair advantage over those who don't offer any. So please detract your offer. If you have any questions about this statement you are invited to take it up with me by email.
