opera doesn't save settings

I just updated from opera 6.12 to 7.11 to get this problem fixed - it didn't help:
Most of the settings changed under preferences (e.g. pop up windows always in background) are completely ignored the next time I start opera.
Even if I check "Do not show this message again" the same messages appear anyway.

Any idea?
thanks

Hi, I don't know whether this will help, but I am an Opera fan from windows, just learning linux now(MDK9.1).

Do a seperate install, not an upgrade, in windows they run as two seperate programs altogether and are quite happy running simultaneously.. Then you can copy your addresses across, but it is best if you set up preferences seperately.

Like I said, this is for windows, maybe the same for linux.

Cheers
Asif

we wanted to have our settings saved to get opera opening pop up windows always in the background (for real player audio stuff).
this special problem isn't solved yet, but for deadline reasons we used a workaround solution by starting the sound file in an invisible frame within the first window.

thank you anyway for your efforts!
