There are many IDE's for Java that are open. I have no idea how good JBuilder is, but you may check out Netbeans, that is the official one from Sun itself and free. It's pretty good if you are willing to make quick graphical applications with Java using Swing. Sure, it works fine with everything else, but I use it mainly to Swing. Another free one, very light weight, but it's more like a text editor with syntax highlighting(though, you can compile and run your applications from the editor) is Dr Java.
Cool, great! I hope you will like Netbeans. Peoples seems to have some random opinions about Netbeans. Some love, some hate. I'm somewhere on the middle . I found Swing very difficult to work with with those JPanel and other stuff...ghehe.
Last hint though, at sun homepage you will find two versions of netbeans, one with j2SDK and one without. The one with is great. It includes both netbeans and Java2 SDK. I'd post a link here, but I cannot find anything on the maze that sun's homepage is. When I've to get something from them, I make a lot of coffee and make sure I have plenty of time to find something there. Sad, I love Solaris OS, I love Java, but hate their page and search system lol...
