Nvidia Driver Install Problems, XF86Config, Monitor

Over the weekend I removed Mdk 9 from my home pc and re-installed RH 8.0. I ran all the updates and installed apt-get and Synaptic (love those progs!). Flushed with success, I decided to install the Nvidia drivers for my GE Force 200 MX. I carefully read and noted the instructions on the website and followed the how to posted on this site. I installed the drivers and dropped into command line to edit XF86Config with the Nvidia settings. I tried to edit this with Vi and after many false starts I have managed to do so.

My problem is that I have a no-name flat screen monitor and RH8 says it cannot probe it. I am left with out of timing errors each time I try to go in, I can't even get to the command prompt now.

My question is, can anyone suggest what I should do to a) reenable the picture so that I can see what progress has been made on getting to X and b) how I can go about getting a more accurate XF86Config file.

Thanks

get redhats Xconfigurator (think thats the name) and use a SVGA driver from that. remember because you have a TFT screen refresh frequency isnt too much of an issue.
