nvidia and redhat kernel source

I am pretty well acquainted with installin nvidia drivers so that is not really the problem; however, in order to get them working with my new kernel (2.4.20-18.9) I guess I need to install the kernel source separately because for some reason, when I try to install them, it tells me it can't find the kernel source on my box which is really weird since I thought it was installed when I installed the newer kernel via RHN.

Anyway, I have the matching kernel source downloaded from RHN and it is sitting in my home directory but it won't install for some reason - comes up with gcc dependencies.

This is weird, this is the error message I get (I am using a previous kernel with nvidia drivers installed right now, but I would like to get the newer one working also.)

Code:
rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.4.20-18.9.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        gcc >= 2.96-98 is needed by kernel-source-2.4.20-18.9
Anyone been thru this or know a solution?

Wow, I feel like a total idiot! I wonder how far my head was shoved up my a$$, lol. I know I installed all the compilers and development tools when I installed Rh9 so I didn't think that would be it. Is gcc not on the RH 9 cd's? I wonder. Oh well, thanks for waking me up!

I guess I wasn't thinking. Thanks, it installed, now I am off to see if the nvidia drivers will work that kernel now.

Damn, doh!

It's ok, it seems like there always should be another pair of eyes to overlook what we are missing. At least it is almost always the case with me.
I think your NVIDIA drivers will be installed correctly now.
Good luck.

well, a lot of the same errors came up when I was trying to install them, but they installed anyway, so now I can use my new kernel.

the error was something about not finding the right kernel interface or something to that effect.

Alas, surely not one of my shining moments, but I am going to look into whether gcc is included with rh 9 or not.

Thanks again.
