Just as the title says, I'm looking for an IRC client that doesn't get used in X. I run a text based slackware box as an NFS server on my internal network and would like to be able to use it to communicate on IRC.
I've done a few google searches to see what's out there and haven't really been able to find anything. Anyone have any suggestions?
epic, bitchx, iircII or something like that and many others.. where'd you search at? I would think at least bitchx would show up, one of the most popular ones, I think its as popular as x-chat is in X itself..
Originally posted by CletusJones those are all x-window chat programs. I'm looking for something that's done from a terminal window.
edit: epic looks like it'll go text based... maybe I'll try that.
They are all text based too.. trust me, I know, I've used them all.. bitchx, works both ways. epic is only text based that I know of and iircII is also text based.
Originally posted by CletusJones how would I use bitchx as text based? is there a parameter that i'd use to start it, or will it just work if i start it from a terminal?
I didn't know BitchX had a gui at all? I've never seen one anyway.
Another option is irssi, which I've recently installed but not yet tried. I just hear it's excellent.
