Hello
Anyone tell me how to get the dongle working on my old laptop compaq nx9010? Now I have Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition and it works OK, but as I have understood (???) the support for 10.04 is ending and I have to upgrade. Tried that once before to 12.04 (which it suggests), but the support for that dongle seems to have vanished in 12.04 (what did they do to the kernel???) and I cannot get connected when spending my summer vacation out in the Finnish arcipelago (beautiful!!!). Do I dare upgrade? I think this dongle is some kind of Huawei something, don't know. (Take into consideration that I'm 66 years old and not that fluent on IT matters...)
Please, help could make my day...

Well, the latest version is 13.04, so not sure why you think you have to go to 12.04. And just saying it's a "Huawei something" tells us nothing. Without the model number and details, there's not much we can tell you. Best thing would be to do a fresh install of 13.04, and go from there. Chances are the device will 'just work', through network manager after you're done.
OK TB0ne, I will try, but I'm afraid that 13.04 is too heavy for my laptop (???).That's the reason why I have been so pleased with 10.04 netbook edition, I find it lightweight enough for this kind of antique equipment. If this won't work, maybe I'll try Puppy Linux. Will keep you informed about the outcome. By the way, do you advice me to do a fresh install instead of updating to 12.04 - 12.10 - 13.04? In that case, I'll have to save all my important files before installing, won't I???
And what's more, the dongle is Nokia Internet Stick CS-17. I still think it is a "Huawei something"... They tell that it will work with Ubuntu 9.04. So let's see what happens with 13.04.
Hello everybody!
I did some googling and found a solution that seems to work for me.
First, I updated the distro to 12.04, and as I feared, it did not co-operate with the Nokia CS-17 dongle.
But, after much investigating I found out that changing the"options usb-storage delay_use=3" to 5 in /etc/modprobe.d/nokia-cs-17.conf did it!
Now, every time I start up the laptop I let it complete the booting before I connect the dongle, and what do you know, the red light goes on at once when I click on the "Nokia Internet Modem" and connection is easily established and working like a dream.
My summer vacation is saved... Hope this will help someone else with a similar problem.
