Question NIS: Server Related ->> yppasswd


hello,
friends i have configured nis server on my system but i am gettign error while settign password for nis user logan i am not able to understand what couldbe wrong?

[root@station137 ~]# yppasswd -p logan
yppasswd: can't find the master ypserver: Internal NIS error
[root@station137 ~]#

The nis client service is not running. You need to start it. This can be done with ypbind or with your distros start scripts.

Thank you for replying
I am facing same problem even after starting service, i am using RHEL 5.3.

i am using following commands before I test yppasswd
service nfs restart
service portmap restart
service ypserv restart
service ypxfrd restart
service yppasswdd restart

Those are server daemons. Those are what is required to *SERVE* NIS responses. In order to connect to those server daemons you must also have the machine configured as a NIS client. This means starting ypbind and allowing it to bind to the ypserv daemon via the network.
