Netbeans 6.0+JDK

anyone had any success installing jdk+netbeans 6.0 bundle from sun microsystems web page?

The download is a shell script and I tried to install it using

(file was downloaded to desktop and renamed to jdknb.sh)

root@ubuntu:/home/tom# cd Desktop
root@ubuntu:/home/tom/Desktop# chmod u+rwx jdknb.sh
root@ubuntu:/home/tom/Desktop# ./jdknb.sh
Configuring the installer...
Searching for JVM on the system...
Preparing bundled JVM ...
Extracting installation data...
Running the installer wizard...
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:71: Engine "ubuntulooks" is unsupported, ignoring
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:242: Priority specification is unsupported, ignoring

A java 'swing' (I presume) window opened but it was blank any one know why this is?

URL below points to sun microsystems page for downloading the file.

Works fine here. You need to make sure that you already have a jdk installed, preferably a sun jdk (which is why I don't install the bundle but first the sun jdk - either from the repositories or straight from sun - and then the netbeans package from netbeans.org). Also you should be wary of compiz. It has the unfortunate effect of occasionally making netbeans pop-up windows unreadable. Make sure to enable the bundled tomcat if you need one; it works better than using the one from the ubuntu repositories.

Only change effect level and appearance and try again!
