mysql on Mandrake

I'm getting the following error message in phpmyadmin

The mbstring PHP extension was not found and you seem to be using a multibyte charset. Without the mbstring extension phpMyAdmin is unable to split strings correctly and it may result in unexpected results.

Any help would be great...

If you compile php from source you should add "--enable-mbstring" among the other options in ./configure.
