Mysql hangs with no response

Hey,

I installed mysql recently and changed the ownership and permissions to the mysql user and group etc. Whenever I try to input a command like show databases; or any other command the program hangs and nothing happens. The log from the linux.err file says error 13 "Can't find file ./mysql/usr.frm"

Any help would be appreciated, take care.

Can you help us with helping you by providing
some more information, e.g. what distro you're using,
where and how you installed MySQL, ... ?

Sorry about that mate, was kind of in a hurry. The distro is SUSE and I installed mysql under /usr/local/ from a binary. I run the mysqladmin version and everything checks out ok and I really have no idea of how to get it fixed. Thanks for the help.

Already got it working, probably an installation error but I reinstalled and everything works like a charm now, thanks for the help.
