MySQL and PHP

I'm getting the following error when I open up my page test.php:

Fatal error: Failed opening required 'common.inc' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/html/test.php on line 3

So I changed the line "required=('common.inc')" to "required=('/usr/share/pear/common.in') it still gives the same error.

Any idea what is causing this?

Okay so you have to create the file common.inc with the functions inside of it. I did that and now I'm getting a "2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query." error. Now what?
