My unqualified host name (alex-NUC8i7HNK) unknown; sleeping for retry

I am using KDE Plasma 5.18.5 on Intel-NUC.
My log file shows the above error. After reading several Google search answers, I tried several of them, but no resolution.

My /etc/hosts file has in it the following:

Code:
127.0.0.1	localhost
127.0.1.1	alex-NUC8i7HNK

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1     ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
It seems that my cron / anacron backup job fails because of this.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Alex

Hi,

You can change /etc/hosts to:
Code:
127.0.0.1	localhost localhost.localdomain alex-NUC8i7HNK

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1     ip6-localhost ip6-loopback ip6-localhost.localdomain

fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
I don't know where the last 4 lines came from, but you can comment them out if you don't need then

Regards

Hello,

OK, I followed your instructions - attached a screen shot of the log errors after my change and after a reboot

What do you think?

Thanks again

Did you get these errors before? I don't know if they are related to the original problem, but I doubt it.
Anyway, what looks bad, is that you don't have permissions in your own homedir! Use su/sudo in order to fix that.

What to fix, how? What command should I use?

I am very new in Linux, a long way to go

Cheers

Well, this is a different problem from that in your OP
If your initial problem about the unqualified hostname is solved by editing the /etc/hosts file, you can mark this thread as "Solved" and start a new one describing the new problem and giving as much info as you can (distro, log files, etc)

Regards
