my KDE 3.3 upgrade has problems with OpenOffice, UT2004,

I upgraded to KDE 3.3 (as recommended by RPMDrake) and now my machine is having a host of problems. Anytime I try to use an OpenOffice app, I get kicked out to the KDE splashscreen, as if I had restarted a session. This also happens if I try to run UT2004, or try to install anyhting that uses glib. Is it safe to re-install the glib.rpm, or will that hose my system?
BTW, OpenOffice and UT2004, etc. were all running smoothly before the update.

running Mandriva 10.1
no output from shell, as it kicks to the splashscreen.

Thanks in advance.
