Unhappy My CD-ROM refuses to open. And NO ITS NOT MOUNTED!

Ok. Let me explain what I know.

I reboot my computer, and the CD-ROM opens. Don't ask me why, I don't know. So, I close it. The computer posts, checks IDE, etc. While it is posting and such, I can open and close the CD-ROM drive. I have done so many many times to make sure. I get to Lilo. Bam, CD-ROM gone.

And, here is the wierd part. If I reboot, and put a CD in when the drive auto opens, I can read the CD. So, it's like Linux is keeping it from opening, and thats it.

I have checked if it's mounted, and its not.
If I type eject, it freezes (well, not really, but, it thinks for eternity)

So, anyone have any ideas?

Unhappy K. here ya go

/dev/hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda1 / ext2 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0

If that looks as bad as it does on my screen, then it wont help much. But ftstab looks clean. i dont see a probelm with it

you need an entry for your cdrom drive in /etc/fstab
mine looks like this:
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0

redhat also puts a bit about kudzu in there but that is distro specific.
That should fix you up.
This is what it looks like on my slack box, I had to add it myself.

now type
mount /dev/cdrom

good luck
eric
