Multimedia Woes..

Hi All,

I'm trying to get various multimedia formats working in SuSE 10 without much success...

So far, I can get MP3s and CDA to play, but its really distorted - almost like the volume is up way to high even if it isn't....

I'm trying to use VLC to play videos and DVDs, but I get sound with no video...

Any ideas?

Open a terminal, run alsamixer and lower your PCM level to like 87% and see if that helps. On my old computer the onboard sound was a little distorted with PCM turned right up.

I did try adjusting both the master and PCM volumes - it made no difference - if I lower it enough to prevent the distortion its scarcely loud enough to hear at all.

I know it isn't my hardware because I've used this hardware with Windows XP and Mandrake 9.2 without issue
