I have created a database using access, that I wish to access as a standalone database from a laptop can anyone start pointing me in the right direction OObase doesnt seem to have any features yet, i.e multi lined combo boxes.
I was thinking of creating a web version of this database but to be run locally from a laptop if this makes sense?
use a better database as access only really works with access and then only semi well.
as for accessing the access data base across a LAN or WAN you will need to figure out a way to host it and keep in mind that only 1 location (computer/user) can use the data base at a time.
you might want to check out MySQL or one of the many other true data base applications/servers out there.
You can use phpmyadmin for a front end for mysql, and access it via your web browser.
Mysql is a server and can be accessed across the internet. phpmyadmin is a web-based UI client that lets you have full control over mysql without having to learn how to run everything from the command line.
Be careful about security; if you intend it for use only on one box, you should make sure it isn't opening any ports to the internet (iptables will handle this for you or if you are running Windows make sure the firewall blocks its ports).
Access is a really horrible product and you should avoid it. If you MUST use it, look at ODBC drivers; it is possible to get to its data from outside.
