I'm using Slackware 10.2 which works fine on my system. I installed Mplayer on my computer. The only reason it works is because I copied the library files from the Slax LiveCD PE onto my system. But now I think its too messy. So I try starting from scratch. Once I get mp3lame on my system, it won't work because it requires x11 (at least).
And even if I get all the libraries installed, there's what I face now:
When movies that I play (not DVDs) are more than the size of about 300 by 200 pixels (either in form of the data or a zoom, it plays in slow motion, although the audio is fine. I'm using X11 with the video player.
I've had the binary installation all along. But I can't get the xv option to work. The xv option doesn't work. I tried installing the xvidcore from linuxpackages and that doesn't work either. BTW, I'm still using my old installation so, x11 works. But I installed only the first CD because I have an old laptop. I'm stuck using windows to play my movies--and that sucks.
Instead of slapt-get he uses swaret. You also don't need to upgrade your kernel (and to Slackware-current) if you dont wish so. Neither do you need to install GNOME, that's all your choice. It might not give you a "perfect" Slack system, bit it's really a good start for people new with Slackware. Swaret makes installing new software just as easy as in Debian (also installing all dependencies for you).
