Mplayer issues. Trying to convert WMV to AVI or MPEG

I've been going nuts all day trying to get this working. I've got a WMV file that I *must* turn into a VCD so I can watch it in my DVD player!

Mplayer plays things alright, but I am getting persistent errors trying to use it as a decoder.

I am trying this command:
mencoder filename.wmv -sws 2 -oac copy lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -vop scale=320:240 -ofps 25 -o filename.avi

error: mencoder: command not found

Also using Konverter, I recieve the error
Can't open '/home/###/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Can't open '/usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory
File not found: 'frameno.avi'
Failed to open frameno.avi
: No such file or directory

Thanks for your assistence.

I'm using SuSE 9 with the 2.4 kernel....
MPlayer 1.0-pre4

try k3b i think it may convert it for you on the fly. just tell it you want to make a VCD and drag your file and click burn. i could be wrong though but k3b is a good program.

Yeah... gave that a shot already. Unfortunately K3b does not perform that conversion.

"command not found". it's not in your path or not on your system. i doubt you have it installed.
