mplayer crashes after awhile in Kubuntu 3.10

Guess the crashes are to be expected with breezy - also prompted with this error msg. at startup:

New_Face failed.Maybe the font path is wrong.
please supply the text file

Anybody had any success fixin' any of these issues?

Anyone running Kubuntu 3.10 had any luck with other players?

when compiled is with --enable-menu
you have to make a link to any true type font like this
this is only an example but will work if you have luxisri.ttf installed
at this location
otherwise adjust
mkdir ~/.mplayer
ln -sf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/luxisri.ttf ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf
