do you have the correct codec packets?

go to the mplayer main page and on their download section you will find 4 or 5 different codec packs that you will need to download and install. that should alow you to play your DVDs with either xine or mplayer or even kaffeine if you like.

i prefer kaffeine for my video viewing in linux.

You might also wanna check what location the MPlayer is accessing. Like on my computer the dvd drive loaction is /media/cdrecorder rather than the default /dev/cdrom. Maybe that might help. Like Lleb_KCir said even i use kaffeine for my movies. its a lot easier.

I know its pointing at /dev/dvd and that works, when i first installed xine it worked but after the first close. That when xine gives you a segmentation fault.

Is Kaffeine easy to use, this whole dvd thing is driving me nuts?

I will try yum when i get home i am at school now, being forced to use windows *cold shakes*.

how to play DVD's

look at the tutorials in the tutorial section of this formum titled Multimedia/DVD/gnu and click on how to play DVD's

Also download the following codec packets: libdvdcss, libxine, w32codec, xineui

install these packets and you should be able to play your DVD's,

just as a reminder incase the DVD looks jumpy when you play it make sure you turn the DMA mode on, on your computer, to do this look at the tutorial on this forum.

I hope this helps you, I had the same problem of not being able to play DVD's too.

By the way kaffeine runs on the same engine as Xine, and it works almost the same way.

If you have any questions you can let me know.

GOOD LUCK
