Try going to
http://fedora.redhat.com . A 'distro' is a version of Linux. The newest one out is Fedora Core 3, which is basically the free Red Hat Linux. I'm using that.
Dependancies are files needed to install and run something. You'll learn how annoying that can be, unless they're on Yum. Just so you know, I installed Firefox in a different way, with an RPM package (all of the files needed to run it) instead of the installer from their website.
