mounting samba filesystem on remote machine as /home on local machine


hi friends..
i have a local machine runnning fedora core 6...and a remote machine running samba...

i want to mount HDD of remote machine running samba as /home for the local machine users..

can anyone tell me how do i mount filesystem on remote machine as /home on local machine..

linux newbie here...plz teme what exactly is to be done step by step..

Installation using samba with the same privileges is possible but is not easy. Why not using NFS mount instead of samba? Its much more natural for linux machines and probably would prove more robust.

If you want to use samba /home mount with adequate user privileges you have to build up a domain based on kerberos to both user authentication and user accounting. You could use existing MS Active Directory for that (i can help you there if you want).

Using NFS mount does not require that... you just need to add one line (or one line for each client machine) into /etc/exports and set the same uid on the machines (user lukost shoud be 10001 both on the server and client).

You can also use NFS with kerberos for centralized user accounting, the point is NFS is much more natural for linux than samba.
