more sound issues

this may be a duplicate i am just not sure how to search out the issue. the problem is with alsa/pulse and the such. it just happened with the last update too. so the problem is that when i boot into my system, i am using the optical out. that part is auto muted so i have to run alsamixer to get it up, hit f6, select the sound and then unmute the s/pdif out to get any sound.

further is when i am running say vlc, using turning it down does not effect the sound unless it is completely muted. there is no volume control with any program so what i have to do is use alsamixer again to control the volume when doing anything.

i was just updating my system, it does this in both fc 22 and fc 23. i really am not sure what to do here. any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

i think you have to tell alsa to use s/pdif as your default output/device/whatever.
so here's a little help to search the issue.

yeah, i dont think that is the issue. i will check into it but the sound is being put out on the s/pdif right now. the issue is that it mutes when i restart it. the second issue is that when i change the volume now, it does nothing. i have to manually change the sound.
