If you can post the errors, removing the addresses as needed, it will give us a better idea of what problems you're having. As it is I can't tell what kind of help you need, or with what part, and I bet the smarter folks around here can't tell either.

Okay, so I'll have a try...

I have Ubuntu 11.04 running and I'm everything but an expert for Linux. But I love this OS and I love baseball... ;-)

It's possible that pyxml is already installed. I don't know what is specifically wrong with this error.

See if "python mlbviewer.py" says you need pyxml. I know the last time I installed mlbviewer on a fresh Debian system, it needed nothing more than downloading the mplayer2 binary.

Hm... all this is pretty complicated for me...
Synaptic package manager tells me, that there is no PyXML on my system...
then I checked if setuptools is on the system: no, it isn't... Synaptic offered me to download and install "python-setuptools", but it wasn't able to download...

Now I don't know what else to do...

Why don't you do what has been suggested, and try running mlbviewer without pyxml. I am pretty certain that pyxml is not needed (I don't run ubuntu but I do not have pyxml explicitly installed)

Well, because README and RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2012 tell me that I need PyXML...
But: I did it without it, and: It works...!! :-)
I have MPlayer running with a game of my choice. Only problem now: no audio...
Any suggestions?

Download the latest binary for mplayer2 (not mplayer.) Also, check to see if there are multiple audio channels using the # key while running mplayer2.

Btw, I am the mlbviewer developer. What I say here should supersede whatever I wrote in the README.

And also "btw": I'm german, my english isn't that good, sometimes it's hard for me to understand all that's posted here. And also: I'm not knowing much about Linux, so my problems now are:
- where can I find the "latest binary for mplayer2"? it's not in the official ubuntu packages, right? and after finding it: what do I have to do with it?
- where/how do I check the other issue with the audio channels?

You see, I need a lot of help. But the idea of not having to run a web browser for watching baseball seems to be great and I would like to manage this. So, very big THANKS for any helping tips...!!

but I really don't know what to do with what is written there. I use synaptic or the Ubuntu software center to install applications and I know some of the very, very basics of terminal commands... How to "build binaries by myself" for example... hm... I really don't know...

For what it's worth larshenric, I am usually able to use either mplayer or mplayer2 with the streams that mlbviewer downloads, so you may not need to go to the trouble of getting a brand new mplayer2. But I would *definitely* first try hitting "#" from within mplayer (or mplayer2) to switch the audio tracks. If you are using the nexdef streams, they come with three audio tracks, one of which is often silent (for "away" streams especially); sometimes the silent one comes up as the default so if that's what happening then switching to the TV or radio audio will solve it.

I would say your options, in order of ease, are as follows:

1. Try switching audio streams in whatever player you're using now. (Hit "#" during playback if you're using mplayer or mplayer2)
2. Try using VLC as your player. If it's not installed, you should be able to get it from the Ubuntu repos easily using Synaptic. (You might need to change the audio stream here too -- I think there's a menu option in VLC to do it.)
3. Install the standard Ubuntu binary of mplayer2. It'll be a few months out of date, but you should be able to get it easily using Synaptic -- just search for mplayer2. Remember to use # to check all audio streams!
4. Install a daily build of mplayer2. Apparently somebody runs a repo that provides this for Ubuntu, which makes things much, much easier: just follow the instructions at http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/insta...layer2-in.html
5. Compile a new mplayer2 from source on your own system, adding some tweaks if you want. This is enough of a pain in the ass for a newbie that you should ask again back here if you get this far and it's still not working.

I'm betting that #1 will work, and if you get to #4 and it's still not working, I think something is going wrong other than the player (did you check your mute button? )

Heh, I suppose I should add that I fibbed slightly here -- I do have to do a bit of extra hacking when with streams downloaded using mlbhls, no matter what player I use. But if you're able to see the video with no problems, then you're already past that point, so I don't think that'll matter!

Okay, I've already tried option #1... Result: when I hit the #-button the message "Audio: Disabled" appears. When I hit it again the message changes to "Audio: (1) unknown". With every hit it changes between these 2 messages. So, this didn't work. But might it lead to another solution? Maybe changing something in the config file?

Option #2 (changing to VLC) sounds interesting, I was already thinking of it, because I like this player. But, how do I change this? Do I have to go into the config file and just write VLC instead of MPlayer? Would that work?

And I also have tried option #3, trying to find mplayer2 with synaptic, but no result (my ubuntu version is 11.04)...

Hoping for your answer before trying options #4 and further...
