I'm sorry. I meant what does your audio_player line look like:
Code:
$ grep audio_player ~/.mlb/config
Depending on what you have in the audio_player line, it takes a little while for cache to fill before playback starts. But we already saw in a previous quote that mplayer wasn't happy and we have to figure out why.
Try this line in your config since this seemed to work when playing a regular file:
Code:
audio_player=mplayer -ao alsa -cache 128
This should take about 2-4 seconds of rtmpdump output before mplayer begins playback.
Another thing you can try is this.
I have just checked in a fix for test/gamedayaudio.py which is a test script that runs outside of the curses "gui" and provides a LOT more detail. It also simply writes the audio stream to the disk. This is helpful in this case because you can record a few seconds of audio, and then run mplayer over that file on disk to get only the mplayer relevant messages.
Try this:
Code:
$ cd mlbviewer-svn/
$ test/gamedayaudio.py 14-264187-2010-05-03
This will start downloading the audio stream rather quickly. So Ctrl-C it after just a few seconds worth of audio is downloaded. That's all we need.
Now do the following:
Code:
$ mplayer 14-264187-2010-05-03.mp3 | tee mplayer.log
If that works, then simply change your config to audio_player=mplayer. You can always fine tune it with cache options and -ao alsa later. If that doesn't work, post mplayer.log here.

I keep trying different things, but in answer to your last message:
Then, I did modify this line as your suggested, still did not work.
I then ran your test script and got this:
:~$ cd mlbviewer-svn
kim@debian:~/mlbviewer-svn$ test/gamedayaudio.py 14-264187-2010=05-03

Works fine on XP Pro. That's what I've tested with.
OK, thanks. I installed Cygwin, but for some reason I can't do much of anything in the command window when I run it, so I'll probably just uninstall and start over.

just remember you have to install the packages with the cygwin installer, not in the command windows...

so, no audio streaming.
Any thoughts?
Bingo!
Have you been switching between root and your normal user account?
Try this:
Code:
$ sudo chown -R kim mlbviewer-svn
$ sudo chown -R kim ~/.mlb
Then try again with the test script to produce a few seconds of audio (Ctrl-C after a few seconds), and run mplayer over that and post that log here.

Edouble, thanks for the 'how to do'. It was obviously top notch because I know next to nothing about computers yet I was able to get Mlbviewer running in Cygwin ..Windows 7. Everything works fine except for condensed games as they crap out ( mplayer locks up ) after a minute or so.
Major frustration was a permission problem with rtmpdump. I'm not going to tell anyone how long it took me to figure that out when even the the terminal was almost telling me exactly what was was wrong.
And Straycat, besides throwing the usual juice your way for Mlbviewer, I want to thank your baseball team for being so rotten that even the Palehose can win a series off of them. That Billy Butler should break the all-time record for GIDP in a season by the middle of August at the rate he is going.

I had this problem with mplayer loading the rtmp stream, but since the last revision with rmtpdump support for condensed games, it seems to work just fine now...

Hey! Watch what you say about my boys in blue. I can always trim out the palehoes from the listings in the next revision.
But man, Soria, what the heck happened last night?
I haven't been able to get anything but audio and that was nearly 12 hours ago. This morning, around noon EDT, they are still timing out everywhere as far as I can tell. Now I can't get even audio or get into the forum to read their cleanup for another screwup.
Anybody know anything other than it's broken? I got a game to watch in around an hour.

So I'm trying to catch the first game of PHI@COL using soapevent.py wrapped in a juicy script to get the eventid, with a light pepper sauce, and because mlblistings.py returns two events delimited by a space (yay doubleheader!) the soapevent.py fails. That's just a tip for anybody else trying the same thing..
Recently I've only been able to either select 800k or 1200k but not any of the lower or higher bitrates for live or archived games. Any thoughts? I'm pretty sure nothing has changed on my end.

They haven't been archiving the 1800k streams. Lower bit rates, I haven't looked at, but for a few weeks now all the (archived) games I've looked at only have 1200k streams.
When running mlbviewer I am getting to the listings but when I try to play a game I am getting the following:
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
I'm a complete noobie here so please help. I have searched through the thread for this but was unable to find a solution.
"Sh!t happens"!!! Absolutely no sympathy from our guru for the predicament I found myself in this morning. You wouldn't see this blase attitude out of him if he was getting "server error... try again later" if he was trying to tune into his beloved KC 'boils.
It fixed itself as suddenly as it broke. Calls to Mlb.techs around Dallas and then Manila didn't help any however the IP tech for my internet provider was able to login in under my userid and password and Voila!!, the games started streaming again. Go figure.

You know there's nothing mlbviewer can do to fix streaming errors on their side. Pretty much once the url is handed over to the player processes, it's out of my hands.
