Yesterday I had very little success with nexdef, but tonight I'm watching the Sox and the Rangers and it started up rather quickly and is going rather smoothly at full resolution. Last night I could get it to start, but I would quickly run out of video data. Both yesterday and today I have been using the new autobahn.jar extracted from the mac package.
Hey, thanks for the update! Both my laptops cannot do 720p and they're also on the slow side. The faster of the two is 1.6 Ghz. The other is too slow (750 Mhz x256 RAM to even think of trying. On the faster laptop, I can get it to start (archived games sometimes take 20 mins or more to get past the Commercial Break screen) but the software scaling is probably what's killing the performance.
So I'm pretty much relying on those of you with the hardware to support it to do the testing for me. I do have a work laptop that can, in theory, do 720p, but I'm doubtful of the chipset. Haven't tried it with the new nexdef because I wouldn't dare start it up at work. Maybe this weekend I'll take it home again.
Still can't get the flash client to recognize the autobahn.jar though so I'm still having trouble figuring out whether it supports jump to inning. If I can fix this, then that fixes the long commercial break and actually makes archived nexdef usable.
Everyone keep me posted regarding your nexdef experience.
i am also having the issue where it takes FOREVER to get past the "commercial break" screen. this happens no matter what inning i select. i used mlbviewer successfully all last season, so i don't think it is an issue with the machine i am using.
also, what is the key to hit that lets you view/switch among available nexdef feeds (i forget)?
by the way, i am using the newest mac nexdef, as well as the latest svn update...
thanks!
edit-- hmm, the "delay" seems to be different for what game i try to watch. i can't get yesterday's redsox game to start, but some of the others are having no problem. i put on a live game and it seems to start as well...

There are major changes in nexdef from last year to this.
The control interface that we used last year is gone. This means until I have success in using the official flash player with nexdef and can Wireshark the loopback interface, stream selection and jump to innings won't work with this year's nexdef.
As Big Papi is still hitting only slightly more than a buck fifty, I also suspect that MLBAM is still working on its own timing and coordination issues with Nexdef.
For a lark, I might change the [NEXDF] indicator to Big Papi's BA so you can get a rough idea of how much you should expect out of nexdef. I suspect as it goes over .200, we'll have a better nexdef experience all around.

gotcha. is there anything we can do to help along this process? i have the official player working (not well -- but you know what i mean).

What I really need to see working is the stream selection and jump to innings with nexdef. The few times I've had the official client working, trying either of these would just drop me back to standard def. If these controls work for you, please do the following:
1. Start Wireshark and capture on the lo interface. Uncheck "promiscuous mode" setting.
2. Filter on "ip.port == 8001".
3. Save file as "nexdef.pcap" and one of the options is to save "Displayed Packets" only. Check that.
4. Send the pcap file to my yahoo account (grep yahoo README.)
hey it's me again. so i had to start over again when i updated to ubunutu 10.04 i had several errors so i decided to do a clean install of ubuntu 9.10 and then update to 10.04, no problems. went to install mlbviewer and had trouble installing pyxml, it would give me tons of errors when i did sudo easy_install pyxml. it doesn't let me copy all the errors but there are pages of errors like this:
extensions/pyexpat.c:496: error: ‘xmlparseobject’ has no member named ‘buffer_size’
extensions/pyexpat.c:505: error: ‘xmlparseobject’ has no member named ‘buffer_size’
extensions/pyexpat.c:507: error: ‘xmlparseobject’ has no member named ‘buffer_used’
extensions/pyexpat.c:510: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘memcpy’
everything else seemed to install ok, the program loads. when i try to play a stream i get this:
Buffering stream/bin/sh: rtmpdump: not found
VLC media player 1.0.6 Goldeneye
[0x95cd668] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[0x992d570] main stream error: cannot pre fill buffer
rtmpdump seemed to install okay. maybe i should try mplayer?
FYI, I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and, not surprisingly, mblviewer works fine on it.
Also FYI, after the upgrade, the Firefox/Flash player actually works a bit better - far less choppy. Nowhere near as good as mlbviewer, but at least usable like it was last season. I'll obviously still be using mlbviewer.

Ignore the pyxml errors.
Rtmpdump is not installed okay as evidenced by the "rtmpdump: not found" error.
Without rtmpdump, vlc is complaining that there is no stream on its input to buffer from.
Check to make sure you have rtmpdump either in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin.
Code:
$ which rtmpdump
If that's empty, go to wherever you compiled rtmpdump and copy that to /usr/bin.

I have 10.04 RC on my work laptop. Brought it home last night so I'll update to 10.04 final later today.
I'm actually making some progress on the rest of nexdef but it would still be nice to see how the official client does things.
how do i move files to usr/bin when it says permission denied?
edit: i used gksu nautilus to move rtmpdump to usr/bin and still got the same error message
also make posix didn't seem to work, got a large page of errors
and from reading back, user "Koufax" seems to have this same problem and it seems to be installing from 10.04 that's causing problems, his posts about it are on pg 182 & 183.

I've been trying to help y ou out. I Can't get the official client to play archived games (with nexdef). I've even been trying on my windows laptop and can't get that to work either. In fact, nexdef on windows wasn't working at all before the recently released update. Now I can do live games, but it still won't start an archived game.

sudo apt-get install libssl-dev (or whatever it's called in 10.04.)
