Missing RAM

I have 1 gig of memory installed and Linux only reports 883MB instead of 1024MB. I also have a problem with my AMD 2000+ processor. Currently, I have it running at 1250MHz. When I run it at 2000+ speed, the kernel seems to hang when it tries to load my SCSI host driver. I even tried to reinstall MDK but when the install program tried to load the aic7xxx driver it hangs. Any suggestions on how to fix these two things? I use MDK9.1

I've heard of some problems new processors have with linux... Its something about APIC (or something)... I suggest you run a search on google to see if you find anything relevant.

As for the memory, you can boot your kernel with the following option mem=1024M (see lilo for help).

I tried to boot it with mem=1024M, the system hangs after the kernel uncompresses. Anymore ideas?

Yes...I've heard you must use something else to boot a kernel on a system with memory above 850MB (or something). I've seen a post on LQ that says about this, but I don't remember what it was called.

Or try a google search.
