Microphone search in Google Chrome

One of the things that I dearly loved in Windows was the ability to search in Chrome by simply clicking on the mic icon and then speaking my search phrase

Now in Ubuntu Gnome and KDE after I click the icon all I get is the error message "NO Internet Connection" (since Google performs typed in searches flawlessly there is no doubt of a good connection)

Pretty darn disappointing

Please let me know if this has been solved somewhere

Are you in Chrome/Chromium on linux? Voice search should work anywhere but if you install chromium them it might be more likely to work.
