Meta tracker never finishes indexing (resource hog)

Hi there! I lost another battle with this Tracker software that apparently is not doing it's job very well.

I came out with this issue as I saw that my CPU was most of the time between 70 and 80 percent of usage, all by some process called tracker-extract.

Maybe when tracker is committing its initial index this is admissible, but this situation repeats every time I boot my notebook and it lasts at least 3 or 4 hours, or until I tell tracker to stop indexing.

I hard-reseted tracker to see if there was any corrupt indexes but with no luck, behavior was the same.

BTW, this issue wasn't present with ubuntu 10.04

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance!

Stop using meta tracker. If you want to search your files for phrases then I recommend recoll. You have to manually tell recoll to search your files. This means that it isn't putting a constant load on your computer. Indexing is fast. Searching for a phrase is also very fast.

Thank you for your response! I've just installed recoll and it is a lightning! It indexed my contents really quick and its search tool brings coherent results. I still have to figure out how to make it index by itself in regular periods of time, but at least is promising.

Thanks again!
