Messed up Xine

OK I'll admit it, I screwed up my xine display driver. In an effort to test graphics settings on my laptop I picked up the wrong setting and screwed up the config. So now when I try to play a DVD I get a full screen blur.

My question is: How can I go back to Xine defaults?

Thanks.

The reason I messed with settings is due to choppy play back after enable DMA.

I'm running Ubuntu 5.10

run xine from the command line and set the video driver with the -V flag.

ex.

xine -V xv

after that you can set the config values through the gui.

Tried it and only got a quick slash screen. Any other options?

well, if xv didn't work and you did say you made changes to the your laptop's display config, i would say that there's something wrong with your laptop's video settings and not with xine. xv is just a generic driver that should always work...

Try to back out your laptop configuration changes exactly and try rerunning xine.

The only cahnges I made were in xine. All other apps work fine. I just tested MPlayer to watch a DVD and it worked. I just want Xine for the DVD menu settings.

Will changes made in xine mess with my other settig snywsy?

Ok, I misunderstood. This made it seem like you changed your actual system settings.

you can try deleting your ~/.xine/config file and restart xine.

Where is that folder and will I need "root" to do it? I'm using Ubuntu 5.10 and deleting/removing folders is a pain.

no you don't have to be root. the folder is a hidden folder in your home directory.

~/ = home directory

if you don't know how to view hidden files in your file manager, what desktop environment are you using (KDE, Gnome, etc... )?

Or...

You can do it through the command line.

rm ~/.xine/config

OK I got it but is there a good graphics setting for a laptop?
I'm using xine for the DVD menu feature but Mplayer does the main movie just fine.

Laptop Hardware:

Averatec 5400 Series
Athlon 2800+ XP/M
512MB DDR
Onboard graphics (32MB Shared) Via Chipset?
40GB hard drive (20GB for XP & 20GB for Ubuntu)

Anything I missed just ask.

I have my xine video driver setting set to auto, but I'm guessing it's using xv. You also may want to try upgrading to the newest version of xine.
