I can't seem to find any instant messaging product for Linux that supports the MSN protocol that lets me chat over a headset, or use my webcam. I know that Gnomemeeting is out there, but that doesn't help me with friends using Windows and who use MSN Messenger and want to video chat. It reinforces the Linux stereotype that there are no apps.
Am I missing something, or is it a work in progress?
Yeah, I know about Netmeeting, but people don't want to use it. They like using their MSN messenger. I can't get them to change THEIR habits because I'm using Linux, when they have the OS that has 95% of the market share.
Maybe this gaim-vv will one day be merged into the gaim code. I would think it's a big issue in terms of getting off Windows for some people.
I know ayttm (http://ayttm.sourceforge.net/) has webcam options, I just was unable to get others to connect to my webcam (due to network blocking all ports).
Once again, I don't think so. Here's what it says:
# MSN's Netmeeting integration, using GnomeMeeting
# Yahoo Webcam viewing support
That means if my friends are doing MSN audio or video chats, I can't join in without asking them to do something different, that they don't have to do to communicate with their other friends using Windows.
