Mesa 7.0 in opensuse 10.2

i recently installed the mesa 7.0 on my opensuse 10.2 distro.
I have an older radeon card, (9650 i believe, with 256MB vram)
My problem is I can't enable dri and I think this is due to not being able to "make linux-dri-x86" when making the new Mesa version. so i settled with "make linux-x86"
is there anyway for me to enable the dri some how?

I have tried to load the dri module in xorg.conf as well, it always tells me that dri is not enabled when running glxinfo.

Code:
todd@todd:~> glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No
server glx vendor string: Brian Paul
server glx version string: 1.4 Mesa 7.0
