media library for linux

Hi, I use xmms but I'd like to have some sort of advanced media library that tracks which files I play and how many times I play them. The goal being that I'd like to look back 10 years from now and ask: What songs was I listening to in 2006? What songs did I listen to on Jan 1, 2005?

I know xmms has a media library plugin, but it is quite old. As the data to be stored can get quite large, my guess is that some sort of database software would be needed.

Any ideas?

Curretnly quite a few programs already have that ability. My favorite Amarok already does this and I think RythmBox does as well if Gnomes your thing.

Once upon a time, I tried, seemingly forever, to find decent media library software, something that actually worked well, could handle more than 2 or 3 songs without crashing, etc.

It's the best I could track down, and works well with xmms.
