maillog is getting too big!!!

In my job , we have a mailserver running redhat 9 , with imap , spamassassin , sendmail and squirrelmail.. The only problem is that the log files are getting too big (size varies from 2 to 3 GB per week).
Right now , all these mail programs are sending their logs to /var/log/maillog , but I want to configure each one of them to send their data to /var/log/programname.log (sendmail.log , for example). I need to do this , because we want to use some tools to check our logs and they freak out when there`s log info that doesn`t belong to sendmail....

Thx.

When using syslog this is not possible since it just does logging by priority and by facility. You can however, adjust your logrotation so that it rotates daily and compresses the log files afterwards. See the logrotate.conf manpage for more information

In my slackware config I have the following line in /etc/syslog.conf
Code:
mail.* -/var/log/maillog
Seems to catch the imapd stuff, don't know about sendmail as we use qmail.

And of course you'll want a daily cron job to rotate and compress the logs for you as well.

You may also want to have a look at daemontools

isn't there a way to config the daemons (sendmail , xinetd , spamd) to use different log files? I really need to split these logs , so I can use some tools to analise my log files and find spammers and such....
