Unhappy madrake 8.2 install

Hi all

I am trying to get mandrake 8.2 to work on my pc. I have 2 hard drives
the master has windows xp installed and that runs fine, the slave i
installed mandrake 8.2.

Everything seemed fine until i tried to reboot, i get so far and when
the desktop loads i just get colourful lines on my monitor and it
freezes. I believe it installed correctly i just cant use it. This
happened several times, so i thought it was Mandrake so i started from
scratch and tried to install Red hat. The same thing happened
installing it was fine but when i try to reboot i see I/2 of the kde
desktop enviroment and the top of the screen has very colourful lines,
and yet again the machine freezes.

I have a sony Hs53/L flat screen minoutor and my graphics card is ATI
Radeon 7000. There is also an onboard Matrox graphics card, which
during the install i did not configure. I have that card disable in
Windows XP.

Ok i just started yet again from scratch and this time i get a text login screen which last for 2 secs (i dont get a chance to type in anything) and then nothing, well not nothing this time half my screen is full of penguins and the top half is colourful lines.

I am very new to linux, so if there is a simple answer to this i apologize, but i have been trying to do this for 2 days and it is driving me crazy

Thanks for any help you can give me

Thanks Sue

hi

Ok i downloaded Mandrake 9.2 and created the cd from the iso image. Popped in the cd and booted up, after it checks my usb devices it brings up a screen that says there is a hardware failure or a kernel bug.

At least with 8.2 i got it installed.

9.2 is a beta. 9.1 is a stable release - trying out a beta distribution is not a good idea, trying 9.1 is.
