Smile Macro with extend selection

I'm looking for a text editor with macro capabilities that can "extend a selection" in its find & replace command. What this command does is to create a selection from the cursor's current location to the search item in question. I used this to manipulate data files.
LibreWriter does not have this, neither does KWord (Calligra Words) or gedit or kwrite or Kate etc.
The only editor that I know of with this capability is the old Corel WordPerfect. Since I don't use Windows anymore, that's out of the question.
Does anyone know of such a Linux editor? I prefer one with a GUI but will try anything.

Thanks,
Linuxian

Vim has this capability (and many, many others). The learning curve is a bit steep though.
