Lubuntu minidlna won't refresh since system update to 15.04

I'm not a linux newbie but I'm no mage by any means but this problem has confounded me...

Since doing a system update from Lubuntu 14.10 to 14.04, minidlna refuses to update the database unless I reboot the system. sudo service minidlna force-reload doesn't work at all anymore...

and since I'm asking what is the easiest way to make the database update at 2 hour intervals?

for the time being I wrote a script to shutdown the server, delete files.db and then restart the server to regenerate the database but it has to be a better solution than this...

Anyone?

sudo rm /var/cache/minidlna/files.db
sudo service minidlna force-reload
