Unhappy Lphoto errors on rotate and convert to B&W

I just pulled and installed Lphoto from the Lindows software site here:

http : // software.lindows.com/ emptypool// lindowsos/pool/main/l/lphoto/
lphoto_0.12-0.0.0.45.lindows0.1.tar.gz

After unpacking it, I ran the install script as root:

python install.py

All looked good. I can run the program as a user from the prompt by typing lphoto. As it runs, messages print to the terminal, as many other GUI programs do. Cool.

If I click the rotate or convert to black and white buttons, nothing happens in the application. An error prints to the terminal as follows:

Empty input file
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/Lphoto/organizeview.py", line 734, in slotRotateSelection
self.lib.rotateImage(item.key)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/Lphoto/photolibrary.py", line 539, in rotateImage
self.__refreshThumbnail(photo)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/Lphoto/photolibrary.py", line 191, in __refreshThumbnail
dict['AspectRatio'] = w/float(h)
ZeroDivisionError: float division

The same happens on the convert to B&W. It appears that the failing function is not getting the filename of the picture thumbnail that is selected. And, to top it off, the picture in question gets deleted! Ah!

Assuming this may be a known issue, I checked the Lindows site, google, and other places but there is no mention of this issue. I may have to go hacking python code but I am not experienced with it. Does anyone know a solution to this?

System is Fedora Core 2 with KDE desktop.

I have answered my own question.

The LPhoto code at the link I quoted is the shipping 1.0 version from Lin[dows|spire]. However, it is still beta. I was able to hack the code and correct the rotates and convert to B&W, mostly. Crop was still broken because the external program called cannot perform a crop. I changed it to call the correct program, morgrify, and it now works too.

Funny, these bugs are so obvious, I don't understand how it got to beta with this in it. Use the code in my link above with caution. YMMV.

A full discussion of the issue can be found at the Linspire support forum:
