Losing firefox extensions when changing version

Hi,
I have been using the pre-installed Suse firefox (1.5.0.3).
I want to shift to using a tarball release (/usr/local/firefox/firefox_1.5.0.4).

(one reason is because the Suse one won't autoupgrade like the tarball one does).

It runs fine, picks up my passwords, history and bookmarks, but all the extensions are gone.
Why? Surely the extensions are stored in my profile?

Using the tarball firefox, I created a new profile, copied all my bookmarks, passwords, etc to it, and then reinstalled all my extensions.
It was working great until I accidentally started the Suse firefox - and all the extensions got trashed again.

Can anyone explain this? I know the simple solution is to do it again and then remove the Suse firefox, but I'd like to understand it.

Regards,
Ian.

Because you did not replace the older firefox rpm package.

What I do when the newer firefox versions come out is;

1. Download the new source tarball (just like you)
2. Modify my firefox.spec file to reflect the newer version*
3. Build the new binary rpm file (rpmbuild -bb firefox.spec)
4. Install the new firefox-1.5.0.4-1.i386.rpm package

* I got the orginal firefox.spec file (and a couple of need icon files) from here;

http://www.fedoranews.org/tchung/firefox/1.5.0.1/

A little adjustment to the spec file may be all that is needed for SUSE, try downloading one of the older firefox source rpm packages to check and use as a spec file template.
