I'm looking for software for agriculture applications - running a beef cattle operation. I've looked everywhere I can think of and googled until I can't think straight anymore. The only software I've found is for Windows, not Linux. Can anyone help me?
Remember, if you do not find any native solutions you can run the applications in WINE which is the closest thing to being native. If it doesn't work under wine you may choose to use an emulator to run windows under linux such as vmware, bochs or qemu.
I know that but this is a very important client. I am trying to take older computers and put Linux on them for people that can't afford newer Windows computers. This client could afford a new system but he is a friend and is trying to help me out both with money and reputation. I've known him for a very long tome and don't want to disapoint him. Besides, all the Windows programs cost $$$$ and I'm trying to do it with native software and with free software if possible but I will pay for a native program. Thanks.
Sorry I don't know anything about agriculture software. But you might get more replies with a descriptive subject -- maybe "looking for agriculture applications" in Linux-Software?
Take the time and write the application yourself using OOO.Calc. If you have the Windows application you're refering to, you can duplicate most features. It will take you time to build the app but not money, then you can give it away to all your users.

I appreciate the replies. I'd rather not use a spreadsheet as that would get unweildy pretty fast. What about OO database? I haven't used it yet. Has anyone used it for a large, complicated project like this?
Build a sample dB using OOBase or MSAccess and see if it works to your satisfaction. The SQL language is sometimes difficult to execute, that's why I suggested a spreadsheet to begin with. They all use tables which in turn can be used in MYSQL or SQLServer.
