Looking for a tool to write up a book

I have been trying to find a simple and decent tool to write a book which can
generate data in HML/PDF.

I have looked at Openoffice, but cant find a template for writing a book and is too heavy.
Lyx is too crude and to much to learn before up and running.

Any other suggestions which can be used will be a great help.

Have you looked into AbiWord? It is very light, and taking a quick look at the Save dialog, I see it supports both HTML and PDF.

Maybe you'll hate TeXmacs as well, then.
But remember that the best tool for the job is a system that creates LaTeX, and compared to writing LaTeX (link to PDF), LyX and TeXmacs are fairly straightforward.
