Logging MSN traffic and messages in Proxy

Is there a way to log MSN and IRC messages as they pass through a dual ported Gateway? The Gateway serves as a Proxy using Squid.

Not via squid, quite obviously they both don't use
HTTP for communication (as far as I know IRC can't
and MSN won't by default). You can always use
tcpdump or ethereal and snaffle anything that comes
via the ports in question ;} if you're root on the routing
system...

Cheers,
