Well, actually I had the same problem and I sorted it out by installing glibc-i18n-something-here. If you this already installed then do a:
echo $PATH
to see were you're path is and then look if the glibc-i18n package is installed in your path. Good luck!
well, it doesnt seem to work. i made a link /usr/share/locales and also a link /usr/share/locale.
something I noticed: in a gtk program on some fields (text fields) I can use äöü and in some other fields (ex: subject line) I cant. so in the same program, in the same windoe, at two different places, I can and I cant use äöü.
Well, I told you. Since I know russian very well and use it in a lot of places I did localise my system to russian. And I had the same problem. The programs had strange letters and I had the same errors. But then I installed glibc-i18n package and everything then became fine. The letters were russian and there were no more errors. So I just suggest you find a glibc-i18n package for your distribution(100% sure it'll be on the ftp of your distribution) and install it. Good luck!
