I have a problem when trying to use Sony Stage windows program inside linux with vmware. I have Sony NW-HD1 MP3 player.
So I have Fedora Core installed to my laptop and installed vmware to get windows xp running inside linux. Thats working great. I managed to install Sony Stage v4.0 CP to Windows XP using vmware. When pluging USB cable from mp3 player to computer, I can connect to the player inside xp. Meaning that Sony Stage is running great and it recognize my player hard disk as well.
(After pluging the usb cable to computer and some setting in vmware, I see a comment in XP that "USB is running at slower speed...")
So so far so good....
I did managed even upload some songs to the player but during the upload the player stopped and gave an error message "These tracks can not be transferred….". After that the Sony Stage doesnt any more recognize the player.
What could be the reason? Pls help!! I tried this several cases, but couldnt get it working.
I was thinking that when my player supports USB 2.0, but the slower speed is available (for some reason), it can cause the file transfer not to work. The "some reason" might be that vmware doesnt support USB 2.0. Could that be the reason?
I found one example using vmware and sony stage. The player and linux distro are different, but otherwise the case is the same. They have managed to get it working.... Why can't I...
Some extra info:
- my laptop supports USB 2.0
- I succeeded with the uploading music, when using diff. laptop with only xp installed -> player is fine
- I am using VMWare server, that is free to download
Distribution: Debian, after testing all the others!

Isn't there a way around using VMWare, like wine or crossover office?
Use Windows 98 because the inner workings of USB in Windows 2000/XP is very different than Windows 98. I have not had any problems using USB 2.0 with Linux and Windows 98. I use VMware Workstation 4.5. My host OS is Linux.
